Phillips’ Trusts, Estates and Valuations Department works with private clients, lawyers, bankers, advisors, family offices, and insurance brokers to assist with various aspects of collection management. In addition to facilitating the sale and disposition of tangible personal property from collections of any size, our team provides comprehensive, USPAP compliant appraisals, from auction estimates to insurance and estate tax valuations.

Trust and Estate Services:

Phillips is proud to have brought a number of notable estate collections to auction in recent years, including those of Miles and Shirley Fiterman, Howard Karshan, and Florence Knoll Bassett. Working with these collectors’ families, advisors, and attorneys, our team provided comprehensive, tailored solutions for the varied needs of each estate. Our team has also assisted with the valuation and sale of several smaller estate collections, with property ranging from coins and contemporary art to jewels and antiquities.

Valuations at Phillips:

Beyond providing auction estimates and insurance appraisals, our team assists with appraisals for charitable donations, gift taxes, loan collateral, and financial planning, as well as indemnity appraisals for museums. Working with our in-house specialist departments, as well as trusted consultants with expertise outside Phillips’ areas of focus, Phillips prepares appraisals for single items through to large, multi-category collections. We provide fully illustrated, detailed valuation documents that comply with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), which are invaluable tools for managing your collection.
