Mauricio Cano del Valle

Partner, Brook & Cano (Mexico)

Mauricio is originally from Mexico City. He holds a Law Degree (JD) from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM), a Masters Degree in Law and Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, an MBA from the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresas (IPADE), as well as a Specialty in Tax Law from Universidad Panamericana and a Diploma in International Taxation from Duke University and ITAM.

Mauricio has extensive experience working in taxation matters both for the public and private sectors. His professional background includes employment with the Mexican Ministry of Finance, Deloitte Mexico where he was a Senior Lawyer, and an International Trustee Service Company, for which he served both from Mexico and the USA up until 2013, when he left to start Brook & Cano as a Founding Partner. He has been a professor at both the undergraduate and the graduate level at ITAM, with lectures on Public Policy and Economic Analysis of the Law. He is the author of the book “Game Theory and Tax Evasion” published in Mexico in 2006 and a paper on “Game Theory and Minimum Taxes” which was included in the book “Game Theory and Contemporary Law” published in Mexico in 2009. He has also authored various articles and published papers on international taxation and has been a guest speaker in numerous events both in Mexico and abroad.

Mauricio is a permanent member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) for which he has served as a member of the Board of their San Diego chapter and is a current member of their Mexico City chapter. During his professional career Mauricio has worked extensively on Mexican taxation matters, international tax planning, inbound and outbound investment structuring, tax treaties, transfer pricing and tax litigation. Mauricio speaks Spanish, English and French fluently.
